Bilbao was the host city of European Social Innovation Academy, where social innovators presented their very own innovating projects focused on generating employment.

After Gorka Espiau's introduction, Javier Bikandi (Basque Government) and Xavier Le Mournier (European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry) shared their experiences on social innovation. Ion Lizaso (Prosumerlab) and Basque Artist Jesus Mari Lazkano also talked about creativity and innovation. Finally the participants divided in two thematic groups and reunited with their designated mentors in order to  improve their projects before the final phase of the competition.

The second day of the Academy took place on the Science and Technology Park of Zamudio. Geoff Mulgan (NESTA), offered an inspiring presentation to the semifinalists on the communication of their idea’s added value.

After a pitch-training session, Laura Orestano (Tamtam Work) and Ane Abarrategi shared their personal experiences at last year’s competition. The second day ended with a visit to Tecnalia.

The semi-finalists worked together with their mentors on a detailed plan for the final, which will take place next May. Best of luck from Agirre Center to all of them!.
