A delegation from Ireland visited the Basque Country last January. The group was formed by representatives of different northern irish organisations linked to social innovation, such as Paul Roberts (ASHTON CENTRE), John Peto (NERVE CENTRE), Brendan Murtagh (QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY), Michael Liggett (BIG LOTTERY FUND), Maeve Monaghan (NOW PROJECT), Audrey Murray (LEDCOM), Ciara Rea (NORTH BELFAST ENTERPRISE HUB) and Paul Braithwaite (BUILDING CHANGE TRUST). The main goal of this visit was knowing in depth about the urban and socio-economic transformation of the Basque Country in the last few decades.

During the stay, the irish delegation attended a presentation on the BASQUE CASE by President Ibarretxe at the Carlton Hotel and saw the Guggenheim Museum, symbol of the Basque transformation. They also visited the facilities of several Basque companies and institutions directly linked with SOCIAL INNOVATION, such as MONDRAGON, GRUPO URBEGI or EDE Foundation.

As a result of this visit, POTENTIAL COLLABORATION PROJECTS between Basque and Northern Irish companies and institutions were identified for the future.
